Gesture Controls
Watch Menu
You can open the Watch Menu at any time by looking at your wrist. If "Tap to open watch menu" is enabled in Settings > Gameplay, then you will have to tap the face of your watch with your other hand to open the menu. The watch can be browsed while it is attached to your wrist, or can be detached by pressing the appropriate button as listed above.
Party Up - Fist Bump
To party up with another player, both of you can make closed fists and fist bump each other. The bands of your watch will turn the same color to indicate that you are in a party. When one member of a party travels to a new room, they will be given the option to invite all of their party members to follow them.
Make Friends - Hand Shake
To add another player to your friends list, just shake hands with them! Hold your hands out and close your fists slightly to grab the other player's hand and wait until the gesture completes. You can also send friend requests to individuals from the "People" tab of the Watch Menu.
Cheers (or Jeer!) - Thumbs Up/Down
The thumbs up gesture can be used to cheer other players, or simply as an extra level of expression.
To do a thumbs up, pull the trigger on your controller to make a fist, and then hold your hand in front of you horizontally, after a short period of time you will do a thumbs up gesture.
Bonus information:
- You can also do a thumbs down gesture (a jeer) by just doing the gesture upside down. This won't open the cheers menu for obvious reasons!
- On Quest, Rift, and the Valve Index Controllers, you have to actually do a thumbs up by lifting your thumb up. We use the capacitive buttons to detect this!
Point Gesture
The point gesture can be used to select a player and open their profile or can be used to say "Hey, look at that!". The point gesture can also be used to open the Expresso menu. You do this by holding the point button and eventually the expresso menu will appear. Simply move your hand to move around the menus.
You can activate the pointing gesture by using:
- Quest + Rift: Y (left hand) and B (right hand)
- Index: B button (either hand)
- Vive Wands: Menu button (either hand)
- PSVR: Square or Triangle (either hand)
- WMR: Menu button (either hand)
- CV1: Y (left hand) and B (right hand)
Dropping Held Objects
If you're holding something which sticks to your hand, like a ping pong paddle, microphone, or a maker pen, you can release it from your hand by pressing the point gesture button.
Quick Snap / Share Cam Gesture
To quickly take a photo of something, hold your hands out in front of you about shoulder-width apart, with your palms facing each other. Once you see a small camera icon appear in the space between them, pull both triggers simultaneously to summon your camera and take a photo. Please keep in mind you need to have this feature on in settings for it to work. You can find it under Settings > Gameplay.
Expresso Menu
The Expresso system allows you to have your avatar display a variety of emotes or some other quick actions, like opening your watch or taking a picture. To open the Expresso Menu, hold out your hand and then press and hold the point gesture button as noted above depending on your VR controller and move it to any direction. Once the Expresso menu appears, while still holding the point gesture button, move your hand into one of the sections to access that submenu, and then into the section for the item you wish to select. To select an option, simply let go of the point gesture button at any time.
