There are four types of bans: automatic timeouts, staff-reviewed bans, associated account bans, and device bans.
Automatic timeouts:
These occur if you have been reported frequently. You can tell that you have received a timeout because the top of your ban message will read "You have received an automatic timeout for:" and then give the report category of the last report you received. This may not always match up with your in-game behavior, as others may perceive you as underage, or using terms that they consider discriminatory. It is important to note timeouts do not negatively affect your account besides the automatic timeout, nor do they prohibit your account from participating in any on-going promotions held by Rec Room.
Account bans:
These occur when staff review your moderation history and decide that you need to be removed from game for some period of time, or permanently. A ban can sometimes occur if you have received an excessive amount of reports from both players and moderators. You can tell that you have received a ban because the top of your ban message will read "After a review of reports, you have received a ban for:" along with a report category and extra details. Bans can also be placed after our voice moderation system detected language that violates our Code of Conduct. For the most part, bans will be placed some time after the reports, as staff will need to review the reports. These bans prohibit you from participating in any on-going promotions and programs held by Rec Room.
Associated account bans:
These occur when you are affected by a ban on another player who has logged in at the same location as you. This account association can also occur when your account has been accessed by another player. Please remember to never share your account login information with other players. You can identify these bans by the addition of 'Related Account: [@username]' in the ban message. These bans also prohibit you from participating in any on-going promotions and programs held by Rec Room.
Device bans:
These occur when your device has been banned and will be indicated with the device ban message. This will affect all the accounts on the device to prevent ban evasion. The device will become accessible again after the ban duration has ended. Players will need to log back into the account that was banned using the same device to remove the device ban.

For each type of ban, there will be a countdown at the bottom of the ban message. If the ban is permanent, no countdown will be present.
