Got questions about our release on Nintendo Switch™? We've got answers! Check out this FAQ to learn more about the Rec Room content available on Switch at launch.
Q: When will Rec Room release on Nintendo Switch™?
A: Soon™! We know that’s not the answer you’re looking for, but we’re working hard with Nintendo to nail down a release date and will update you when we have one.
Q: Will this be free to play?
A: Yes! Rec Room is free to play on all platforms.
Q: Will it require a Nintendo Switch Online™ membership?
A: Nope, you’ll be able to play Rec Room without a membership!
Q: Will it be cross-platform?
A: Yes, although it’ll feel a little different than our current cross-platform experience. Players will be able to play together, but clubs and events won’t be accessible (with the exception of Rec Room-hosted events like RecCon).
Q: Will voice chat be available?
A: Yes, you can use voice chat in Rec Room on Nintendo Switch™. Simply plug a mic or headset into the audio jack.
Q: What is different from the current experience?
A: Not all content will be available in the Nintendo Switch™ version of Rec Room. We have a list of approved content that is continually growing, and you can learn more about what will be available on this page about content criteria.
Q: Will I be able to create and publish rooms on Nintendo Switch™?
A: You will be able to create rooms and invite your friends, but you will not be able to publish content you create on the Nintendo Switch™ version of the game. Because of this, you also won’t be able to sell content you create on the Nintendo Switch™ version of the game.
Q: Am I able to sign into my current Rec Room account on Nintendo Switch™?
A: Yes! It’ll be very similar to the current cross-platform experience, but there are a few differences - tokens purchased on Nintendo Switch™ won’t be able to transfer to other platforms and vice versa, as well as tokens earned from sales on other platforms.
Q: Will I be able to transfer tokens that I earn on Nintendo Switch™?
A: Tokens you earn through gameplay are now able to transfer between ALL platforms.
Q: Any other differences?
A: The Portfolio page, the Clothing Customizer (used for custom shirts), clubs, and events (excluding Rec Room events like RecCon) won’t be accessible in the Nintendo Switch™ version of Rec Room for now. Also the content you'll be able to experience will be a bit different and you can learn more about that on this page.
