Overview of Voice Moderation:
At Rec Room, we prioritize a safe and welcoming environment. We use voice moderation systems in all public rooms in real-time. These are advanced machine learning systems that detect hate, harassment, and other types of nasty speech based on Rec Room’s community standards. Over the last year (2023), instances of toxic voice chat have fallen by around 70%.
To learn more about how voice moderation works in Rec Room, you can read our Dev Blog.
Accuracy of Voice Moderation:
The vast majority of players have never broken the Code of Conduct so the voice moderation systems have never picked them up. Our voice moderation systems only escalate to a moderation action when we have enough confidence that violations have occurred and we do not take action on single incidents. Our system currently operates at 99.999999999% confidence.
Types of Voice Restrictions:
Players who repeatedly violate with voice may receive:
- warnings;
- voice chat restrictions of different lengths; or
- short in-game bans for repeated and more severe violations
Linked Account Restrictions: If an account linked to yours receives a voice chat restriction or ban, the same may apply to your account. This is sometimes called an associated ban or mute. The best way to prevent this is not to share your account information with others and follow our Code of Conduct.
Regaining Access to Voice Chat:
Voice restrictions are automatically removed after the restriction period has ended. Details about active restrictions and their expiration can be viewed on your watch in-game.
Bans can be appealed via rec.net/ban-appeal, but voice restrictions cannot be appealed.
Thank you for being a part of the Rec Room community and for your efforts to maintain a friendly and inclusive environment. Keep showing your Rec Room Best!
